Join Lisa this fall and winter (2021) for her Introduction to Yoga and Exercise Science Workshops! The four workshops focus on 3 main parts of bodily movement:
Anatomy,
Physiology,
and Biomechanics.
Her virtual Zoom Workshops run between September and December.
The Workshops
Anatomy 101 Are you a new yoga teacher or a yoga-teacher-in-training? This workshop is for you! We will start with the basics of anatomy: terminology, planes of action, types of joints and their actions. We will strive to learn how the different systems of the body interact with each other to help yoga poses to come to life. This workshop is a great refresher for those who would like to review basic anatomy for yoga.
Anatomy 102 Join Lisa as she delves into the details of the different component parts of the body. We will focus on major muscle groups, the bones they move, and some attention to the nervous system sprinkled on top. We will build on the Anatomy 101 workshop to ensure you have a strong foundation in applying the basics of anatomy to the body and your yoga practice.
Exercise Physiology 101 Have you ever wondered how your body moves? In this workshop, we will deconstruct the basic principles of exercise physiology within the content of yoga. You will learn about the energy systems that allow our muscles to contract, and what is actually happening at the tissue level when we practice different types of yoga. We will review key principles of exercise physiology such as progressive overload, and adaptation. If you want to learn how the structures of our body function on the yoga mat, this workshop is for you!
Biomechanics 101 Join Lisa as she explores the fundamental principles of biomechanics in yoga. This workshop introduces you to how forces are applied and loaded in the body, while on the mat. We will consider different forces that act on the body, the different types of muscle contractions, and Newton’s Laws of Motion as it applies to our yoga practice.
Workshop resources (worksheets and slide deck) will be provided to you. It is recommended that you print off the worksheets before the workshop as we will be using them as learning tools.
The workshops are both practical (be ready to move!) and lecture based.
Each workshop will be recorded. You will receive access to the recording to review as often as you would like after the workshop.
Full refunds are available for cancellations made at least one week before the workshop date. If less than one week's notice is given for the cancellation, no refunds will be issued. Full refunds will be issued if the workshop is cancelled by the organizer (Lisa Workman).
