Individual Exercise Instruction

Picture
Lisa is an experienced Clinical Exercise Physiologist with over 20 years of one-on-one training. She is well-versed on proper exercise technique, exercise prescription for prevention and management of chronic disease, and possesses a strong skill set in helping individuals make an exercise, and overall lifestyle change.
Lisa works with chronic disease patients, and is continually adjusting resistance and cardiovascular exercises to fit their needs as patients; by incorporating functional exercises, Lisa assists these people in taking these movements out of the gym, and into their daily lives.
Behaviour change is a major part of her work. Lisa utilizes motivational interviewing skills to not only identify the readiness and willingness of people to exercise, but to also help counsel people on how to include more physical activity in their lives. Lisa's passion project, The Why I Move Project, aims to assist people in keeping a positive outlook on WHY they move, and helps facilitate the discussion of mindful physical activity.
As an AFLCA Fitness Leader, Lisa is certified to teach a number of fitness classes:
Resistance Training, Aquatic Exercise, Older adult programming, and group exercise classes such as indoor cycle, Nordic walking/Urban Poling, portable equipment, choreography, and pre/post-natal fitness.

Yoga Instruction

Picture
Lisa completed the Yoga Association of Alberta's 500 hour teacher training program with many hours at Yoga Within with her senior teacher, Melanie Checknita. Lisa continues her studying at Yoga Within, working towards her 750 hour teacher certificate. Lisa is a Yoga Alliance 200 Registered Yoga Teacher.
As a previous 200 RYT, Lisa taught a variety of group Hatha yoga classes focusing on strength and flexibility needs such as Yoga for the Inflexible, and Chair Yoga. Due to the current health and safety standards, these larger classes have wound down...for now! Keep an eye on Lisa’s social media to hear about any upcoming classes.

Hypopressive Instruction

Picture
With a passion for new moms, Lisa is also experienced with pelvic floor training, also known as hypopressives. ‘HYPOpressive’ refers to a decrease or reduction in pressure, so this form of exercise reduces pressure to the thoracic, abdominal and pelvic cavities specifically. Most traditional exercises (abdominal training, gravity, and the majority of our daily activities) are actually HYPERpressive – they increase intra-abdominal pressure.  It is not to say that doing these everyday activities is bad for us, in fact most of what we do – even walking – increases this internal pressure.
What we need to address is how well our bodies are able to manage these pressures and prevent the onset of injury/dysfunction. And this type of fitness instruction is especially useful for mothers in the postnatal stage.
Please contact Lisa directly to for questions about Hypopressive Instruction.
